Chris Bishop will run London marathon for FMA UK and in support of his daughter Holly

Chris is one of the lucky people to win a place at the Virgin London marathon on the 24th April this year – congratulations to Chris! Chris decided to run it in support of FMA UK and he told us why: ‘’At the age of 57, the London Marathon was one of those bucket list things we watch on the television, thinking one day I would like to give it a go. Places are hard to get but I thought:’’Go for it!’’. To my surprise I got a place.
Reality set in, so the training started, then bang, injury hit and I thought well maybe another year. The New Year arrived and I thought I'd try running again. A few aches and pains but doing ok. Then bang again, not me but my daughter. She had just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, something I knew little about, however what I do know is the pain and fatigue don't compare. Feeling helpless, as a dad, I wanted to help so I have chosen to run on behalf of a charity not as high profile as many others but with an equal commitment to help and support all fibromyalgia sufferers. This run is for you and my daughter Holly.
I have decided to set up a just giving page starting from the beginning of February after an initial month of training to ensure I've not bitten off more than I can chew, and the knees hold out! I live in Devon and am travelling up with my wife who is my cheerleader for the run, so unfortunately there won't be more support there on the day, but I'm sure my friends and work colleagues will be following via the 'live' tracking available via the internet. My daughter Holly, when I told her I was going to run on behalf of Fibromyalgia Action, was over the moon’’.

The charity is run by volunteers, most of whom have fibromyalgia.
If your Health Care Professional needs some education in fibromyalgia you can request that an FMA UK Health Professionals Pack is sent out to them. All we need is the name of the Health CareProfessional and the address of their practice. We will then send a pack to their surgery addressed from us to them.

You can find a Support Group near you by contacting the Regional Coordinator for your area. If there does not happen to be a support group near you then maybe you can join with some other members and set one up. Support groups provide a social benefit as well as the opportunity to share tips on coping with fibro. They come in all shapes and sizes and we are often told how they have helped people.
