Abbie and Adam's Gaming Livestream for FMA UK

“Hello! My name is Abbie Tattersall, and my partner's name is Adam Carter. We are both 29 years of age and live in North Devon.

I got diagnosed with fibromyalgia in November 2024, but I have been dealing with the condition for many years. That has been a massive challenge for me, but also for my partner Adam who has been my main support in my support network. The condition also has meaning to Adam himself, as his mum has also been diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

We both felt strongly about trying to raise money and awareness for this chronic condition because we are both very aware of how it can affect not only someone’s health but also their daily life. We want to make other people, that don’t know much about fibromyalgia, aware of what happens to people like me and Adam's mother. We are both aware of the stigma around fibro and get comments from everyone who doesn't know about the condition. For example, "you're fine, just fight through the pain", "get off your bum and get over it", "you're just being lazy" or "you're not trying hard enough". These comments are simply not true, we can’t just ignore and push through the very real and intense pain.

Adam and I have always wanted to be able to do a charity event. Due to my mobility issues, I can’t do a lot of physical activities, but we both really enjoy gaming. We both started doing live streaming in 2024 and came up with the idea of a 3-day stream for charity. We wanted to do this for something close to our hearts, and that we believe needs to be known about.

I was informed about Fibromyalgia Action UK when I was diagnosed at one of my pain management appointments. Their website is filled with information and resources on the condition, and whilst looking through it, I could see ways to do your own charity event. It was as if a light bulb got switched on in my brain (which does not happen very often) and the idea was back. Adam and I discussed this and spent time researching, and forming a routine that people will enjoy and like to watch. We have games planned and will be joined by fellow gamers/friends who want to join in on the fun. There will also be punishments and rewards if Adam or I win or lose.

We will also have a special member joining, who we call our streaming mascot; Leo our border collie. Leo is our baby and it wouldn’t be right not to have him involved as he is also a part of the journey, we both are experiencing. Leo does look after us both on the darkest days but mainly he is a very cute animal. He enjoys the limelight most of the time when we stream live.

We hope to see you and speak to you all at our event you will all be able to ask questions and enjoy being a part of the conversations. You can catch our live charity stream on Twitch from the 20th-22nd of February 2025, 2pm - 10pm, where you can also donate to our fundraising campaign.”

Beth runs the Great North Run 2024

We're thrilled that Beth has chosen to run for our charity in the Great North Run on Sunday, 8th September 2024! Join us as we share our newest member of Team Fibro's fundraising journey.

"I am running the Great North Run 2024 in aid of Fibromyalgia Action UK. I saw the place for this through a friend of my mum's on Facebook. She is living with fibromyalgia and I am honoured to be able to run this and fundraise to help find a cure or treatment for fibromyalgia.

Since fundraising for this, I have come to realise that many people I know live with this condition and are affected by it daily. With this condition affecting people that I know Fibromyalgia Action UK has become an important charity to me as I want to be able to help those close to me.

I enjoy running and have wanted to take part in the Great North Run for a while, and now having the opportunity to do it whilst raising money for charity has been an amazing experience.

Good luck to anyone else running on Sunday, have fun and see you there !!! - Beth"
