Dear Friends,
It is with sadness that I have to notify you of the untimely death of Ann Roberts. Those of you who have worked with FMA UK since the beginning of rationalisation in 2000 will remember that Ann along with her husband Melvin was one of the delegates at our inaugural meeting. She felt very strongly about the lack of support that some people with fibromyalgia received from their medical professional care team and worked constantly to make all of the medical professionals she came into contact with aware of the condition. Ann did this despite having to contend with other serious health issues, along with her fibromyalgia.
Ann started working with FMA UK in 2000/01. She had been a member of the Castleford Group for some time and under the influence of Yvonne decided to open a group in the Selby area. The group covered the Selby, Goole and York catchment area. Ann aided by her husband Melvin ran the group for some considerable time, but as her health deteriorated the group was closed and Ann continued to support local people with fibromyalgia by manning a local helpline and contacting people via email. It is only recently with the opening of a new local group in Goole that Ann decided to step down knowing that people would be able to access support locally by getting in contact with the new group. However, knowing Ann, I would suspect she still carried on spreading the fibromyalgia word to all of the medics she came in contact with.
I do not have any further details at the moment but Gerry and I will be attending the funeral and will represent FMA UK and the Yorkshire & Humberside Region.
